யூத வழியில் தமிழீழம்   1939-ஆம் ஆண்டு – ஹிட்லரின் நாஜிப் படையினர் யூதர்களுக்கு எதிரான இனப் படுகொலையை அரங்கேற்றிய ஆண்டு. அதற்கான முதல் படியாக அய்ரோப்பாவில் இருந்த யூதர்கள் ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக பொது சமூகத்திலிருந்து பிரிக்கப்பட்டு தடுப்பு முகாம்களுக்கு அனுப்பிவைக்கப்பட்டனர். அந்த முகாம்களில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு என்ன நேர்கிறது என்பதே வெளி உலகம் அறியாத நிலை. கடும் சித்ரவதைகளும், கண்மூடித்தனமானப் படுகொலைகளும் மிக சாதாரணமாக அரங்கேறி	Humanity failed in Sri Lanka   The Sri Lankan government has carried out atrocities with impunity – and is now allowed to investigate itself for war crimes.   Sri Lanka is a country where abductions, disappearances, killings and general human rights violations happen with impunity. Law and order is applied selectively. Racists are promoted to higher ranks and government allegedly colludes with armed paramilitary in abductions and disappearances. In recent times, Sri Lanka has taken a step further in breaching international law, Geneva conventions and UN charters that it is signed up to. In the name of "war on terror", Sri Lanka conducted mass murder in broad daylight.

Reflecting the stance of the US and European powers, Ban called for greater access to detention centres into which the Sri Lankan army has herded 265,000 Tamil refugees. He also appealed for the Colombo government to “heal the wounds” of the 26-year conflict by addressing the grievances of the Tamil minority.

The council held a special session on May 26 and 27, 2009, on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka, a week after the defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) by government forces.

At least 50,000 civilians are trapped within the remaining few square kilometres of territory still held by the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The merciless offensive carried out by Sri Lankan army and the right-wing regime of Rajapakse has slaughtered thousands, wounded many more, driven over a million people from their homes and forced hundreds of thousands into wretched internment camps.   The LTTE fighters and their leadership have been massacred in cold blood by the Sri Lankan military. Sympathy for the plight of the Tamil people and for the cruel fate of fighters of the LTTE, however, must not prevent fundamental lessons from being drawn.
